The Eagle engine was designed for the novice machinist/engine builder. Many builders have asked me to recommend a "first" engine to build so that they can get started in this hobby. The Eagle was designed to fill this need and it is my recommendation. Building the Eagle will teach the basics of small engine construction. A 6" or larger lathe is recommended.

The day that I started making the drawings for the Eagle, I was interupted by the news of the New York Trade Center destruction. The date on the drawings make the Eagle a memoriasl engine.

The Eagle is a horizontal, 4 cycle, water cooled, hit-or-miss gasoline engine. It has a bore and stroke of .875", cast iron liner and piston. The 3.6" OD cast Silicon Bronze flywheels weigh 2 pounds each and have raised letters "Eagle Engine Co.   USA", the engine measures 4.1" high, 5.6" wide and 8.2" long. This engine features a "drop in" ball bearing crankshaft, an adjustable flyball governor and an oversize exhaust valve for easy breathing. The Eagle is easy to build, easy to crank, idels very slow and will run 2 hours on one ounce of fuel.

The casting kit includes 4 Almag Aluminum castings (frame, cylinder and 2 bearing caps), two cast Silicon Bronze flywheels, 12 high quality 11" X 17" drawings and 14 typewritten pages of construction suggestions. The price of the casting kit is $130.00, postpaid within the USA. Contact me for shipment outside the USA.

The Eagle Castings

I sell only the  best Sparkplug on the market (in my opinion). The Plasma 14-32 Sparkplug has an integral side electrode. This eliminates welding the side electrode into the threads. The Plasma sparkplug also has a long ceramic insulator to prevent "arc over" when using medium or hi voltage ignition coils. The price of the Plasma sparkplug, with two copper washers is $17.00, postpaid, if shipped within the USA.

The photo above shows the BOSH, a 4 cylinder, four cycle gas engine that I designed and built some years ago. It features a small distributor driven from the camshaft with a miniature breaker assembly and the SM ignition coil. The SM coil construction is detailed in my book "Ignition Coils and Magnetos in Miniature". It has a throttle lever and a clutch lever. The brass radiator has 6 flat brass tubes and a gear type water pump. The engine is exhibited and run at major engine shows. No drawings or plans are available for this engine.

The above photo shows Old Smokey pulling PaPa Bob's Air Calliope. The radio controlled tractor was originaly built with a Coles Small hit-or-miss engine to pull a log trailer. The calliope is powered by a small electric motor that drives the punched paper tape and the 2 rubber bellows that pump air to the 18 brass whistles.

Old Smokey and PaPa Bob's Air Calliope has been exhibited at all the major engine shows and is quite a hit with the Ladies and kids. For those interested in building Monkey Organs, Street Organs, Music boxes and Calliopes, click on the link below for more information.
