The Silver Bullet was designed, patterned, cast and built by Bob Shores. The engine was first exhibited at PRIME 99 and all castings were sold by noon on the first day of the show. The Bullet was also displayed at NAMES 2000 and again all castings were sold by noon the first day.

The Silver Bullet is a 2 cylinder, 4 cycle gasoline engine with a bore and stroke of .750". It has overhead, side operated valves, cast iron sleeves, 3 ring pistons, a self compensating carburetor that is easy to build, adjustable ignition timing and a very pleasing sound. The ignition system is a "waste fire" system that employs a 2 spark coil susch as a mororcycle coil or the Exciter coil sold by http://www.mjnfabrication.com

The Bullet is 5.0" high, 3.0" wide and 6.7"  long. The original Bullet was built on a 6" Atlas lathe.

The casting kit includes 4 Almag Aluminum castings (block, oil pan, bell housing and gear cover), twenty six 11" X 17" high quality drawings and 18 typewritten pages of construction suggestions. Replacement castings are available.

The price of the Bullet casting kit is $130.00, postpaid anywhere in the USA. Outside the USA the price is $165.00.

The Little Hercules engine shown above is a smaller version of the Silver Bullet with some design changes to offset scaling. The Herky can be build on small lathes such as the Sherline. Some of the design changes are: Shorter exhaust tunnels and longer inlet tunnels to dissipate heat, A rotary carburetor choke and a roller clutch for cranking by hand or with an electric motor. The Herky is 4.6" high, 3.0" wide and 6.0" long.

At the major engine shows, I let small boys hand crank this engine for 25 cents. The Herky cranks very easy, idles slow and has a pleasing sound.

The Hercules casting kit includes: 4 Almag Aluminum castings  (block, oil pan, bell housing and gear cover), Twenty eight 11" X 17"  ink on bond drawings and 33 pages of typewritten construction suggestions. The drawings also detail the construction of the radiator, water pump, carburetor and fuel tank.

The price of the Hercules casting kit is $130.00, postpaid anywhere in the USA. $165.00 shipped outside the USA.

A new carburetor has been designed for the Silver Bullet and is named the "Shores" carburetor. The new carburetor for the Herky is named the "Minimix" carburetor.

The photo above shows the carburetor sitting on a 25 cent coin. Drawings for the Silver Bullet and Hercules engines issued after 1 May 2003  will detail this carburetor.

The carburetor is made from bar stock and is a mechanically self compensating, rotary drum, throttle type. It  has 5 parts, including the throttle lever. It is small enough to not overwhelm the engine appearance. The carburetor can be applied to similar sized engines.

A copy of the carburetor drawing and construction suggestions is available for $2.00 if shipped within the USA. $3.00 outside the USA.
